January Digest: The Best of All That is The Worst

January marked the hard launch of Shameful Cinema, and we started the year with a bang with a plug from Tim Lucas over at Video Watchdog. Lucas is the editor of the Dog, and Mario Bava’s biographer, so we really appreciate the endorsement. As someone who enjoys his magazine, blog and his insightful commentaries on Bava, I think it’s a real honor to be included on his blogroll.

We reviewed a good many films in January, and in this entry I shall condense the best features our dedicated staff has produced so far. So in case you missed it …

Our resident soundtrack expert Bill Cooke brought us several must-reads:

Check out all his soundtrack reviews in his own section, Shameful Cinema Sounds!

We gathered the whole crew together for our first Roundtable Review session. The selection was the Greek film SINGAPORE SLING (1990).

Be believe our commentary is the definative discussion about this film, so go check it out!

Stewart provided us with some great DVD reviews! Check these out:

And I preoccupied myself with Shriek Show releases in hopes that they will think I am awesome and send me lots of releases for me to review (hint.. hint..).

Lovers of Dennis Ray Steckler should check out my double review of HOLLYWOOD STRANGLER MEETS THE SKID ROW SLASHER and LAS VEGAS SERIAL KILLER.

I also worked my way through a “Mutant Monsters” three-pack that included the fantastic CREATURES FROM THE ABYSS, THE BEING and the not-so-fantastic THE DARK.

And I examined two excellent Euro-sleaze films in the BCI/Eclipse Welcome to the Grindhouse double-feature, BLACK CANDLES and EVIL EYE.

We have big plans for Shameful Cinema, so thanks for reading and stay tuned!
