Mario Bava’s gutsiest film is the one he never finished. RABID DOGS, aka, KIDNAPPED, found Il Maestro abandoning his trinity of technically perfect direction, sickly mood lighting, and gothic atmospheric storylines for angry realism, pulpy violence and nihilism. The result is a grim but accessible meditation on desperation and survival.
